How to be a Goalkeeper: Basics

Posted under soccer goalie equipment

I show ya’ll the basic catches and the recommended gear to play goalkeeper. I may sound harsh in some of my videos but it’s the truth, only the elite goalkeepers have good reputations. I get my gear from www.soccer.com for quality imports and my local soccer shop for my jerseys generally.

when i play soccer goalie my knees hurt when i dive. my socks wont help because i cant bring them up tat high?

Posted under soccer goalie equipment

wat should i do for my knees any equipment

Well, first of all, your form when you dive is wrong. You should be coming down on your hip and forearm (the one closer to the ground on the side that you are diving to).

As for equipment, one of the best things you can get to protect your knees are GK pants with padding on knees (they also come with pads on your hips. I have a Reusch pair — I would recommend these). If your elbows/forearm also hurt from diving, then get a GK jersey. I would mainly recommend Reusch or Adidas GK jerseys.

I want to play lacrosse, what do I do?

Posted under soccer goalie equipment

I am a girl and want to play men’s lacrosse. I am 13 and 5’8 and weigh 125. I have never played lacrosse before, but I am great at field hockey, play goalie in soccer and have played football. I know that men’s lacrosse is physically demanding, but I am as tough as they come. I live on the west coast and there are not many lacrosse teams (2 within a 5 square mile area, 1 for girls, and 1 for boys) I already know how to play lacrosse and I don’t want to play girls lacrosse, i don’t really think I would enjoy it.
What do I do and what equipment do I need. Do you have to have played lacrosse for a long time to be on a team?

I can’t answer specifics as to teams in your area, however I had a friends daughter play with the boys several times. One of the best box lacrosse goalies in the mid-atlantic region in Ginny Cappichioni (look her up).

Get a boys stick and helmet. They will be very different than the girls equipment. Invest in good gloves, decent elbow pads, and shoulder pads. Stick with whatever is recommended for chest protection on the girls side.

When you get everything together, just throw the ball against the wall until you get comfortable, then find a partner to practice with while you become proficient. Good luck to you, dealing with the boys at your age may be a little difficult but stick with it. As you get older that stuff will subside.
